Weekly Parent Guide

What you do:

ACTIVITY:Color Coding

What you need:
Old family photos (digital or hard copies)

What you do:

Gather some of your favorite photos of your child. Show them the photos. Tell them the stories behind each one. Ask them how they remember the day or event. Compare your stories, and talk about how you remember the events the same or differently.

Ask your child, “What are some of your favorite memories from growing up? What are some things that you’ll never forget? Are there any things that you wish you could forget? What are some of your most embarrassing stories? What are some of your proudest stories?”

Share your own answers to those questions, too.

Talk about the Bible Story:
Telling stories can be a powerful experience, right? Who told you the story of Jesus for the first time?

When Jesus told His followers to be the salt and light of the world, what did He mean? (Jesus wants us to tell others about Him and His story.)

Do you think it’s important for people who follow Jesus to share His story with others? Why?

How can it be hard or scary to tell others the story of Jesus?

What are some creative ways we can tell others about Jesus? (Write them a note, invite them to a Small Group sleepover, be kind and loving no matter what.)

How we live our lives can point others to Jesus, just as much as what we say—and sometimes even more so! Let’s make a commitment as a family to use the creativity God gave us to show others that we know and love Jesus. God created us to share His story.

Prayer:
“God, we are thankful for the gift of your Son, Jesus. Because of Jesus, we can be in Your family forever. Help us look for creative ways to share Your story with others. Help us to live lives that make it obvious that we love and follow You. Thank You for creating us. Thank You for loving us. Amen.”
